Kath Kenny

Kath is an essayist, arts reviewer and researcher. Her book Staging a Revolution (2022 Upswell Publishing) won the History Publication Award at the 2023 Victorian Community History Awards, was long-listed for the Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award and listed as one of the ‘Best reads of 2022’ by the Sydney Moning Herald and The Age. Her writing has appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, ABC, Meanjin, Australian Book Review, The Monthly, The Saturday Paper, The Guardian, and numerous other publications. She contributed the lead chapters to the anthologies #MeToo: Stories from the Australian Movement and Fashion: New Feminist Essays.

She is co-president of the Sydney Writers’ Room and a 2024 Visiting Scholar at the State Library of NSW. In 2024, she was one of the inaugural recipients of the Whitlam Essay Residency (Varuna and the Whitlam Institute). She recently completed a doctoral thesis at Macquarie University, receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence (see Kath’s Academia page for scholarly work). She lives on unceded Gadigal land in Sydney’s inner west.
